Great success to Merano Wine Hunter

In 1992 the Merano Wine Festival was created by Helmut Kocher, a world-renowned wine expert who decided to organize an event in which to enhance the elegance and excellence of the products. In conjunction with the Festival Kocher decides to become a Wine Hunter, always looking for excellent products.

Since then he has been invited to international tastings, which allow him to taste wines from all over the world, and to discover wines whose quality makes them unique over time.

Every year, together with a commission, the critic tastes over 5,000 Italian and foreign labels, to assign The Wine Hunter Award, which aims at researching, discovering and sharing excellences that arise as the union between past and future.

The prize is awarded to wine and culinary products, distillates and beers which, after careful evaluation, achieve a minimum score of 90 points out of 100, in order to guarantee their superior quality.

There are three score ranges:

The Wine Hunter Awards Red, between 90 and 92.99 points out of 100

The Wine Hunter Award Gold, between 93 and 95.99 points out of 100

The Wine Hunter Award Platinum 96 points out of 100.

Each wine is evaluated by attributing a score to intensity, complexity, elegance, personality, raw material, tradition and sustainability.

Tenuta del Buonamico participated in the Wine Hunter Awards by sending its red reserves, Cercatoja IGT Tuscany 2018, Fortino IGT Tuscany 2018 and Spumante Particolare Brut Rosé.

The first is the oldest reserve produced at Buonamico, produced for the first time in 1975. It is a blend of Sangiovese (60%), Syrah (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) which ferments in steel for 3 weeks and carries out the malolactic fermentation and the refinement in French oak barriques for 18 months. The nose is intense, with notes of black cherry, figs, plums, undergrowth, licorice and black tea. On the palate it is very structured, elegant and deep, with an evident but pleasantly rounded tannic texture. It is ideal in combination with grilled red meats, such as the typical Florentine steak, or roasted red meats, game and tasty cheeses.

The second is a pure Syrah that comes entirely from the oldest Syrah vineyard in Italy. The fermentation in stainless steel is followed by 18 months of aging in wood, for an intense, ample wine, with red fruit in the foreground, nose of undergrowth, blackberries, balsamic and spicy notes. On the palate it is broad, sapid, structured and balanced, with thick and soft tannins. Perfect with red and white meats in sauces or grilled, it is also excellent as a meditation wine, perhaps in combination with dark chocolate.

The third, flagship of the estate’s production, was born in 2011 from the desire of the Fontana family to embark on a new adventure: to produce a Tuscan sparkling wine of excellence. It starts with an experimental production of about 2000 bottles, to arrive today at a total production of 140,000 bottles of bubbles, divided into 5 different sparkling wines. The Particular Brut Rosé is a blend of Sangiovese and Syrah, sparkling according to a Charmat method lasting 4 months. Of a beautiful soft pink color, the nose is fragrant, fresh and fruity, with initial hints of rose followed by black cherry, raspberry and strawberry. On the palate it is fresh, easy to drink, balanced and characterized by an extremely fine and elegant perlage. Perfect throughout the meal, for a toast or a party, it will be exalted to the max with cured meats, vegetable flans, fatty fish and roasted fish.

All three wines were awarded a Red Wine Hunter Award, once again confirming the success of the Tenuta del Buonamico in making products of excellence.
